I have a 2004 X5 4.4i BMW with 57,000 km (approx 35,000 miles). It's lightly driven and never done any towing. I bought the vehicle new, and have always had it dealer serviced. On accelleration, and decelleration, the transmission does a hard slam, feels like the transmission is falling off the car.

Automatic Transmission stuck. I have a 2001 BMW E53 X5 3.0L and just replaced the engine. When I tried the initial start, lights came on but wouldn't start. I tried to move the shifter but it wouldn't go so I thought when I hooked it up I didn't put the shifter in the correct position on the transmission and that corrected the problem, I think

I had a problem for some time with the gears not changing up when after driving for about an hour (Brisbane, Australia) on my 2001 X5 (E53). Often it would get stuck in 2nd and not change or would only change to 3rd at 80km and 4th over 100km per hour. The needed oil change on the distribution gearbox (VTG) is also pressing as it increases wear on the transmission (and a transmission breakdown is the economic write-off in your situation). The glow-plug related errors indicate a past electrical fault, unless you experience starting problems on cold weather you could treat them with less JeLe7.
